Research in the laboratory is focused on exploration and mining of genetic material from marine bacteria, especially actinomycetes, with a focus on secondary metabolite biosynthesis. We want to isolate novel genes for biosynthesis of bioactive compounds, which could be used for preparation of new medicinal drugs. We also analyse the environmental signals and factors affecting secondary metabolism. By this, we aim to develop optimal protocols for the cultivation of producing strains.
